Questions about our smoothies
Why frozen berries?
Not only are they kinder to your finances they’re also less likely to be snacked on and depleted before it’s smoothie time, or worse, forgotten about and left to meet a mouldy mushy fate.
Want something sweeter?
There are various ways to sweeten your smoothie. Let’s get the obvious out of the way first; sugar is a no-go.
Artificial sweetener has mixed reviews. While there is yet to be widely-accepted proof of adverse health effects, prominent dermatologists believe it negatively affects our gut health, which in turn affects our skin. What we know for sure is that while artificial sweeteners may provide no calories, they also provide no nutrients.
Instead, go for:
- Honey: Full of antioxidants and very flavourful.
- Dates: Wonderfully sweet, bringing some dessert-like flavour to your recipes.
What else can I add that may not be tasty, but is really good for me?
Spices! Cinnamon is a classic for sweet treats. You can also add turmeric, cayenne pepper, paprika. We also encourage adding more leafy greens if you’re game!
What’s can I use to make my smoothies more watery?
Other than water itself, we recommend chilled green tea, coconut water, fruit juices and veggie juices.
Why is there banana in almost every smoothie?
Bananas provide texture, sweetness & flavour. They’re filling, good for digestion, and full of vitamins which will help your skin, for example; C, b6, potassium & magnesium. The latter of which helps the body produce collagen and protect skin cells against free radical damage.
How can I make my smoothies quieter?
No one wants to be the loud morning-person in the household!
- Put a towel underneath your blender and use another to hold on top while blending.
- Bring your blender to another room. Kitchens are often centralised in the home, and tiled, causing a lot of sound amplification and travel. You may feel a bit loopy plugging your blender in the external laundry, but it’ll keep your housemates happy!
- Blend the night before, then stir in the morning.
