At Home, Easy Life Hacks for Healthy Skin
We all love a good life hack, and in fact, we've spent hours flicking through youtube videos on easy life hacks we can do to make our lives that little bit easier (who needs sleep anyway, right) But what about easy life hacks for healthy skin? We wouldn't be much of a skincare blog if we didn't have our own hacks to boast about; after all, a skincare routine that works isn't just about the serums and moisturisers you choose. It's also equally important to have good habits at home, which is exactly what you'll find out if you read on. Let's get started!
Go makeup free.
This one is easy –– but it's also easy to forget. It's important to give your skin a break from makeup every now and then, especially if you wear it every day. We're not saying you need to go full-on au natural (although, kudos to you if you do!), but makeup can clog your pores and cause breakouts, so even just giving your skin a few makeup-free days a week can make a big difference in helping to keep it clear and healthy.
Also, ensure you cleanse thoroughly before going to bed and avoid sleeping in makeup at any cost. While we know that sometimes it's easier said than done, especially when there is alcohol involved, your skin will thank you for it in the long run.
Look for flaws in your ceiling.
By now, you know that sleep is essential so let's move past the 'you need 8 hours' talk and get straight into your sleeping position. Sleeping on your back might take some getting used to, but it's worth it! Not only is it great for your posture, but it can also help prevent wrinkles, and out of all the sleeping positions, it is easily the best for your skin. When you sleep on your side or stomach, you're more likely to squish your face into the pillow and wake up with creases in your skin from where you've been lying –– and we all know that those can turn into fine lines and wrinkles. It's actually been found that second to UV rays sleeping any other way is the leading cause of wrinkles (yikes)
Clean your brushes.
Cleaning makeup brushes? I thought this was supposed to be easy life hacks, you say. While it is mind-numbing and annoying, it's also super important for your skin health and can significantly affect its appearance. Cleaning your makeup brushes not only helps to get rid of any bacteria that may be lurking (ew), but it will also help your makeup to go on more smoothly and evenly, as well as make sure it lasts longer. We recommend giving them a good clean at least once a week; you can use a gentle shampoo or brush cleanser; just make sure you rinse them thoroughly afterwards and leave them to air dry. See, it is easy!
Drink more water.
Okay, we know we sound like a broken record at this point, but seriously –– drink more water! It's crucial for your skin (and overall health), yet so many of us don't get enough of the stuff. Drinking plenty of water helps to keep your skin hydrated and plump, as well as flush out any toxins that could be causing breakouts. Aim to drink at least eight glasses a day, and you'll see a big difference in your skin's appearance.
Keep it silky.
Invest in a silk pillowcase –– especially if you sleep on your stomach or side. We all know the benefits of sleeping on a silk pillowcase; it's gentle on your hair and skin and can actually help to reduce wrinkles (win!) But did you know that it can also help to keep your skin hydrated? That's right - silk is a natural fabric that won't absorb your skin's natural oils like cotton. This means that you'll wake up with hydrated, glowing skin - and we can all get behind that.
Just make sure you keep those cases clean; bacteria can easily transfer from your pillowcase to your face, so it's important to wash them regularly (we recommend once a week) in warm water with mild detergent. Why mild? Just like with skincare products - the fewer chemicals you use, the better it is for your skin!
Invest in a humidifier.
Dryness and your skin are two things that just don't click. If the skin is dry, it can trigger multiple illicit reactions like itchiness, redness, and flaking, none of which are particularly fun. One easy way to help combat this is by investing in a humidifier! Humidifiers release water vapour or steam to increase the air's moisture level. This can help to soothe skin, make it feel more comfortable, and ensure that it doesn't dry out. Humidifiers are extremely useful to those who live in dry or cold climates, those with eczema or psoriasis, or anyone who wants to give their skin an extra boost of hydration.
